Residents, businesses and community groups are invited to attend the third annual Ajax Diversity Conference on Saturday, November 10 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn (500 Beck Crescent). Admission is free, and attendees are required to pre-register online at ajax.ca/diversity.
The conference features two keynote speakers: Sam Burdett, Policy Advisor, Diversity and Immigration Program, Region of Durham and Sarah Kambites, Senior Director, United Nations Association in Canada, and six breakout sessions.
“To appreciate the different dimensions of diversity, it is important to consistently challenge and unlearn our accepted norms. The Ajax Diversity Conference is an opportunity for staff, residents and subject matter experts to come together and share their perspectives on issues affecting our community from mental health and inclusivity to accessibility and poverty.” says Jai Sahak, Diversity & Community Engagement Coordinator, Town of Ajax
The six breakout sessions include LGBTQ Rights, Making Visible the Invisible: Stories of Immigrant and Refugee Youth with In/Visible Disabilities, Equity Matters: Understanding Unique Mental Health Challenges, Recognizing White Privilege: A Youth Led Conversation by students of Ajax High School, Disability Justice in Canada and the World and Criminalization and Racialization of Poverty and Mental Health.
