The Town of Ajax launched the new In Conversation With… speaker series on May 31 at 7 p.m. at the St. Francis Centre with a live panel discussion and Q&A with expert panelists on Sanctuary City & Human Rights. A Sanctuary City is any municipality which provides full access to municipally-run services to its residents regardless of immigration status.
The three expert panelists included Dr. Graham Hudson, Associate Professor & Undergraduate Program Director at Ryerson University, Mercedes Lee, Organizer from No One Is Illegal Toronto, and Syed Hussan, Coordinator at Migrant Workers Alliance for Change. The panelists each presented their perspectives on the Sanctuary City designation before a Q&A session with the audience.
The free event was live streamed on the Town’s YouTube channel.
“As part of Phase 2 of our Diversity and Community Engagement plan, we are focusing on sharing valuable information and exploring new perspectives. This live series will allow our community to hear from experts on important topics including Sanctuary City & Human Rights, the #MeToo movement and more.”
– Jai Sahak, Diversity & Community Engagement Coordinator, Town of Ajax
