On Wednesday, the City Of Oshawa disclosed the names, positions and salaries of all of its public sector employees, as well as all taxable benefits for those who earn $100,000 or more. This is in accordance to The Public Sector Salary Disclosure act for the Province Of Ontario. The purpose of The Act to make Ontario’s public sector more open and accountable to taxpayers.
The Act applies to organizations such as the Government of Ontario, Crown Agencies, Municipalities, Hospitals, Boards of Public Health, School Boards, Universities, Colleges, Hydro One, Ontario Power Generation, and other public sector employers who receive a significant level of funding from the provincial government. The municipality of the City of Oshawa annually provides a Record of Employees’ Salaries and Taxable Benefits as required under the Act.
In 2018, 248 City of Oshawa employees received salary and taxable benefits of $100,000 or more, an increase from 225 in 2017 and 204 employees in 2016. The 2018 list includes 145 International Association of Fire Fighters employees, 67 management employees, 33 non-management exempt employees, two CUPE 251 employees and one CUPE 250 employee. Overall, there is a net increase of 23 employees on the 2018 Salary Disclosure List compared to 2017.
