Clarington has been named the 2019 Municipality of the Year as announced by Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) during an awards ceremony on February 28. The award recognizes the Municipality’s outstanding leadership in supporting festivals and events.
“We are very proud of the diversity of festivals and events held here in Clarington. From the annual Apple Festival in Historic Downtown Bowmanville to the Orono Fair, we value the role that these events play in bringing our community together and the economic impact they have on local businesses,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
Staff from Clarington’s Tourism Department and Community Services Department attended the awards gala in London, Ontario accepting the award on behalf of the Municipality. The FEO Municipality of the Year award is given to a Municipality in three population categories. Clarington won in the 50,000 to 150,000 population category. According to FEO, the award recognizes the best in municipal leadership and festival and event partnerships in the Province of Ontario.
“I want to acknowledge and thank all the local community organizations who run the events and partner with Municipal staff to ensure that our community can come together in a time-honoured tradition, making memories and enjoying each event,” added Mayor Foster.
