Crews respond to CP train derailment at Ajax

At about 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 23, crews responded to a CP Rail freight train derailment at Ajax. The incident happened near Westney and Taunton roads.

Reports from the scene suggested as many as a dozen freight cars had derailed from the tracks, laying in a zig-zag pattern and stretching for almost 100 meters. The cargo the train was carrying has been contained by officials and poses no danger to area residents.

Passersby, who live in the area, say they are very glad that the incident wasn’t much worse.

It’s not clear how long the derailment will take to clear the tracks. The cause of the derailment has yet to be determined.
