Dress in your most macabre attire and come to party at Station Gallery’s first “Dia de los Muertos” event on Thursday November 1st. Dia De Los Muertos ‘The Day of The Dead’ is a joyous Mexican party hosted by the living, with the dead as celebrated guests of honour.
It should be a spectacular, as members and guests revel in dazzling costumes, fantastic food, whimsical performances and authentic haunting songs while enjoying the current art exhibits.
“The Mexican culture mocks death, caresses it, entertains it, and embraces it.” says
Chris Cote, Education Coordinator at the gallery. “The inevitability of death has long been accepted by the native people of Mexico, who incorporate remembrances of the dead in ancient harvest festivals. Celebrations and offerings are made as a vital part of maintaining a good relationship with the dead and honoring their souls. ‘The Day of the Dead’, is essentially a family time – a time of reunion for the living and the dead.”
Tickets can be purchased online at www.stationgallery.ca, calling 905-668-4185 or visiting the gallery at 1450 Henry Street, Whitby. Admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Space is limited so call today to join the celebration.
