From February 8 to 10 next year, about 400 athletes and 100 coaches and support staff will be coming to Durham Region from across the province to compete in the Ontario Parasport Games. Athletes will compete in eleven different sports, including Boccia, Curling (Visually impaired), Curling (Wheelchair), Goalball, Para Alpine Skiing, Para Nordic Skiing, Sitting Volleyball, Sledge Hockey, 5-A-Side Soccer, Wheelchair Basketball, and Wheelchair Rugby.
As they get ready to host the Durham Region 2019 Ontario Parasport Games, organizers wanted a hashtag to describe the capabilities and spirit of the competing athletes. They’ve aptly settled on #paramazing.
“As we meet athletes, hear their stories, and see them in action, we’re inspired to make these Games just as amazing” said Don Terry, Co-Chair of the Games Organizing Committee.
“These Games are a wonderful opportunity to grow accessibility and inclusiveness in our community,” said Emmy Iheme, Co-Chair of the Games. “We’ve created a legacy fund to help ensure family finances don’t prevent disabled youth from enjoying the benefits of participating in parasports.”
Sponsorships (both financial and in-kind) are being sought to help make these Games successful. To get more information and discuss partnership possibilities, you can message Kate Bird at [email protected]
