Durham Regional Police invite youth to Ripple Effect forum

The Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) Youth In Policing members are hosting their annual “Ripple Effect” Forum on Wednesday July 18 at the General Sikorski Hall in Oshawa. The forum lets teens share their thoughts and feelings on youth issues, helping DRPS target resources and programs to areas of need. The collaboration has a history of reducing negative issues and effectively managing growing crisis within schools and communities.

The day consists of engaging keynote speakers and workshops. This year’s theme is perseverance, with a desire to inspire youth within the community to overcome challenges despite difficulties or setbacks. Participants will be coached to understand that perseverance is not a long race, but rather many successive short races.

The event also encourages youth to become ambassadors of change within their own communities, and shows them how little actions today can dramatically improve their lives and the lives of others.

The conference is open to any youth groups who wish to participate. Students can also earn seven community service hours for their high school diploma. A free pizza lunch is also included.

General Sikorski Hall is located at 1551 Stevenson Rd N, Oshawa. The event runs from 8:30 am to 4pm
