Anthony Salinitri, Serron Noel, Nando Eggenberger and Allan McShane recorded a goal and assist each to lead the Oshawa Generals to a 6-3 win over the rival Peterborough Petes in OHL action, Feb. 13, at the Tribute Communities Centre.
Brett Neumann and Tyler Tullio also scored for the Generals (34-18-3-0), who have won six of their last seven games to move into a tie with the Niagara IceDogs for third place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Cameron Butler, Ryan Merkley and Nick Robertson scored for the Petes (25-25-3-2), who have dropped seven of their last 10 games.
Oshawa never trailed in this one, getting out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Tullio and Noel just 17 seconds apart. Butler cut the lead in half less than a minute later before Eggenberger restored the two-goal lead when he came around the net and beat Petes goaltender Hunter Jones on the wraparound.
Merkley had the lone goal of the second period and the Petes evened it up at 3-3 on Robertson’s 21 of the season midway through the third.
McShane, who has been red hot with seven goals in his last eight games, would get the game winner with the Generals on the power play and only 5:32 remaining.
Noel dug the puck from between his skates and slid it back to the slot to a streaking McShane and he fired it past Jones.
Neumann and then Salinitri, with his 40 of the season, into an empty net sealed the deal for the Generals, who also got two assists from Mitchell Brewer.
Oshawa takes its four-game winning streak to Michigan this weekend with a game against the Flint Firebirds on Feb. 15 and then a stop the next night to take on the Saginaw Spirit.
