Homicide investigation underway in Pickering

A deceased man located in a wooded area in north Pickering has now been classified as Durham Region’s first homicide victim of 2019.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 25, a woman walking her dogs came upon a deceased male in a wooded area near Liverpool Road North, about 150 meters north of Pine Ridge Secondary School. Police were called and officers located the deceased man who showed obvious signs of trauma. He has been identified as Nicholas Samaroo, age 24, of Pickering. A post mortem is being scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with information of assistance to investigators is asked to contact Det. Short of the Major Crime Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5407. Durham Police are particularly interested in movements and associations of Samaroo over the past several weeks.
