Impaired Driver Attempts to Flee from Police in Pickering

A suspected impaired driver assaulted officers and attempted to drive off in his vehicle at a traffic stop in Pickering.

On Thursday, April 25, 2019, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Durham Police responded to the intersection of Kingston Road and Glenanna Road for an impaired driver asleep in his vehicle. Officers arrived and found the suspect in a blue Honda Accord parked in the live eastbound lanes. Officers attempted to speak to him but the male was not co-operative with the officers. The male attempted to drive away and officers struggled with the male to shut the car off. The male proceeded to punch at the officers as he continued to place the vehicle into drive. The officers deployed a Taser and the male was eventually taken into custody.

The officers suffered minor injuries.

Marc Chapman, age 35, of Reed Drive in Ajax is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, 2 changes of assaulting a Peace Officer, as well as other charges. The suspect was released on a Promise to Appear.
