The new Whitby Town Council unanimously adopted ten goals to guide its work during the new 2018 to 2022 term.
The top goals include delivering local jobs and prosperity through strategic planning and promotion of Whitby as a destination; accelerating the pedestrian focus of the historic downtown cores; and
making Whitby’s streets and neighbourhoods safer through innovative and best-practice design standards and traffic calming measures.
Council also committed to make workplace morale a priority by building a collaborative, inclusive, respectful and creative work environment that engages the abilities of all staff to solve problems, accomplish new things and deliver the best outcomes to residents
Other goals set by Council focus on improved customer service, enhanced support for businesses, continued responsible fiscal management and respect for taxpayers, and walkable and complete neighbourhoods.
“These goals represent the shared vision of Council,” said Mayor Don Mitchell. “They are rooted in what we heard from our residents during the election. Ultimately, they will guide our decision-making and measure our success.”
Council’s goals will be built into the Town’s annual and long term planning including the annual budget, business plans and the corporate strategic plan.
