Local Rotarians to visit Malawi

Three Rotarians, from the Uxbridge club, are going to be travelling to Malawi in mid-September as part of a group visiting Emmanuel International Canada project sites and also assist in refreshing primary-grade classrooms.

They’ll be helping by painting and applying colorful alphabet and numeric stencil borders on the walls of the classrooms, which were originally built by a group of Rotarians from the GTA.

To assist the current team, the Rotary Club is collecting coloured pencils (not wax crayons) and pencil sharpeners. The goal is to collect more than 10,000 gently-used pencils, by Sept. 6, so that each of the 900 children may receive multiple pencils for their use.

Pencils can be dropped off at Emmanuel International at 3967 Stouffville Road, Stouffville. Alternatively, cash donations will purchase supplies in country, which also helps the local economy. Cash donations over $10 are eligible for a tax receipt.
