Loehrke Process Hygiene to open North American headquarters in Durham Region

Loehrke Process Hygiene Inc., a subsidiary of Jürgen Löhrke GmbH, has selected Durham Region for the location of its North American headquarters. The Durham Region Economic Development and Tourism Division supported Loehrke throughout their site selection process–providing market research and assistance with real estate identification.

“Durham Region is honoured to be chosen for the North American Headquarters for such a successful company,” said Kathy Weiss, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “We appreciate opportunities to showcase our infrastructure readiness; strong talent pool; innovative ecosystems; and market-focused post-secondary educational programs, to companies from all over the world.”

Loehrke is a well-established German company employing approximately 150 people; specializing in the engineering, production and installation of specialized equipment and machinery, which sanitizes packaging production lines for most major global food and beverage producers.

The company has already hired a North American sales manager to lead this new subsidiary; has plans to grow its sales base and expand North American business; and will create new, specialized jobs in Durham Region in the near future. The selection of Durham Region as the home of Loehkre’s North American headquarters is a direct result of the Region’s Foreign Direct Investment strategy.

“We are pleased to have chosen Durham Region as the location of our North American headquarters for many reasons,” said Dirk C. Leyer, Global Director of Sales with Loehrke. “We were impressed with Durham Region’s existing infrastructure, affordable real estate and development costs and strong talent pool. Plus, its central location puts our company within an 800-kilometre (one-day) drive of approximately 40 per cent of the U.S. and Canadian populations.”

Canada is an increasingly attractive option for expanding German businesses, due to the new Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

With its engineering and turnkey competences, in addition to system solutions, Loehrke handles the complete project design and installation process and offers a wide range of after-sales services. A close relationship and information exchange with industrial users, plant manufacturers and well-known academic and research institutes is a major part of the company philosophy.
