Ajax native Connor McMichael will be suiting up for Team Orr in the 2019 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, scheduled for Jan. 23 at Red Deer, Alta.
The London Knights forward is one of 40 NHL draft eligible players, divided into two teams by NHL Central Scouting, taking part in the 24th annual showcase. Team Cherry will be coached by Ron MacLean, alongside Dave Hunter and Brent Sutter, while Team Orr will be guided behind the bench by Kelly Hrudey, with Robyn Regehr and Marc Habscheid.
McMichael heads into the game with B rating (indicates a second or third round candidate) on the NHL Central Scouting Players to Watch List.
The left winger was an 11th overall pick of the Hamilton Bulldogs in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection before being moved to the Knights at last year’s OHL trade deadline.
The six-foot, 170-pound forward had just eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 60 games as a rookie last season, but he’s taken his game to another level this year, racking up 27 goals and 22 assists for 49 points in 40 games.
Team Orr and Team Cherry are selected from the top NHL draft picks from across the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Team Orr carries an overall record of 13-6, while Team Cherry holds an all-time record of 7-13 with the extra victory coming against Team Davidson in 2005.
