Sparky the Fire Dog is turning 68 this year and Pickering Fire Services is inviting residents to celebrate at a free open house.
The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 15, at Fire Station 5, located at 1616 Bayly Street, Pickering.
As the official ‘spokes-dog’ for the National Fire Protection Association, Sparky is dedicated to educating children and families about fire through fun and interactive learning activities.
“What Sparky has to say can save lives,” says Fire Chief John Hagg. “Community engagement is one of our corporate priorities and we look forward to celebrating Sparky’s ongoing commitment to fire safety and prevention with our community.”
The event will include fire truck tours and interactive activity stations for the junior firefighters in the community. In lieu of birthday gifts for Sparky, staff will be accepting non-perishable food donations for the local food bank.
