Police make arrest in Durham Region’s first homicide of 2019

Homicide investigators have made an arrest in Durham Region’s first homicide of 2019.

The accused turned himself in on the evening of March 3, for an incident occurring on January 25. Investigators believe a second male suspect was involved and the investigation is continuing.

Kyeree Reynolds, age 20, of Rosefield Road in Pickering is charged with first degree murder. He was held for a bail hearing.

On January 25, a deceased male was located in a wooded area in north Pickering, and was classified as Durham Region’s first homicide victim of 2019. At approximately 7:30 a.m., a woman walking her two dogs came upon a deceased male in a wooded area near Liverpool Road North, about 150 meters north of Pine Ridge Secondary School. Police were called and officers located the deceased male with obvious signs of trauma. He was identified as Nicholas Samaroo, age 24, of Pickering.
