This spring, Whitby residents are invited to enjoy three free gardening seminars as part of the 2019 Whitby in Bloom Speaker Series. The seminars will be held on March 27, April 24 and May 22 at the Brooklin United Church, 19 Cassels Road East, Brooklin. Each event will be presented by a master gardener.
“As a Town, we are committed to sustainability and maintaining Whitby’s green spaces,” said Mayor Don Mitchell. “The Whitby in Bloom Speaker Series will help residents learn how to beautify their outdoor spaces.”
Residents are invited to take part in one or all of the following three seminars:
March 27 – Alexandra Risen discusses how our connection to plants holds the secret to inner peace, and how a garden can become a metaphor for life, a source of recovery, growth and insight.
April 24 – Tara Nolan presents “Raised Bed Gardening”
Learn how to create your own oasis and about the benefits of raised bed gardens that allow you to garden almost anywhere.
May 22 – Carol Pasternak presents “Drama in the Butterfly Garden”
Learn how to focus on the life in your yard. This event will feature a book signing of How to Raise Monarch Butterflies, a Step-by-Step Guide for Kids.
The Whitby in Bloom Speaker Series is presented in partnership with the Whitby in Bloom Committee and the Brooklin Horticultural Society. Interested residents are encouraged to register and reserve their spot early at whitby.ca/whitbyinbloom.
