A teenager attempted to flee from police in a stolen pick-up in Bowmanville.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 9, a citizen told police he observed his stolen vehicle being driven in the area of King Street and Scugog Street in Bowmanville.
Durham Police Service officers responded quickly and attempted to stop the stolen vehicle. The driver failed to stop, but not after striking two police cruisers as he attempted to escape. He was eventually stopped and subsequently arrested. Police also seized a Taser in the vehicle. One officer from suffered minor injuries during the collision.
A 17-year-old male from Clarington was charged with theft of a motor vehicle; possession of property obtained by crime over $5000; failing to stop for police; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; unlicenced person possessing a prohibited weapon; possession of a prohibited weapon; occupying a motor vehicle with a prohibited weapon and Class G1 licence holder unaccompanied by qualified driver. He was held for a bail hearing.
