On Feb. 2, hockey fanatics from the Township of Scugog and beyond will gather for the challenge and fun of playing in one of the most popular outdoor hockey tournaments in the province, the Lake Scugog Pond Hockey Charity Tournament.
The tournament is one of the best run and well-respected hockey tournaments in Ontario. Besides providing an outstanding venue for competitors and hockey fans alike, the tournament has donated thousands of dollars to local charities.
Games are three-on-three for 30 minutes, with three games guaranteed. There is a maximum of six players per team with no goalies. Sign in is at 7:30 a.m and games begin at 8:30 a.m. with medals and prize money for winning teams. Other activities include the best silent auction in Port Perry, skill-shot games for the kids and plenty of activities available for spectators. Coffee will be provided by Tim Horton’s and fresh, hot meals are available from the Port Perry Marina.
Proceeds from the tournament will go to Community Living Durham North and the John Strange Enrichment Fund, which assists people to achieve their lifelong dreams and live a life built on quality. Funds are used to assist people who may be experiencing a financial shortfall as well as support opportunities for people to become active contributing members of their community.
