The Town of Whitby is inviting local community and non-profit organizations that contribute to the town as a vibrant and caring community to apply for the 2019 Community Development Grant Programs.
“A number of our residents trust and rely on community organizations to positively impact their lives,” said Mayor Don Mitchell. “The town is committed to supporting as many of these organizations as possible through our annual grant programs.”
Application deadlines for the 2019 Lead Cause grants (each up to $25,000) are: Mayor’s Fundraiser, Feb. 28; Mayor’s Golf Tournament, March 29. Community grants of up to $5,000 can be applied for throughout the year and are awarded monthly.
In 2018, the town provided more than $140,000 in grants to more than 35 local community organizations through the Mayor’s Community Development Fund and the Performing Arts Community Development Fund. The three lead causes for the Mayor’s 2018 Fundraiser were Epilepsy Durham Region ($25,000), Pickering Auxiliary Rescue Association ($15,000) and Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre ($15,000).
All applications are reviewed by a council-appointed citizens committee according to evaluation guidelines approved by council. High priority is given to community-focused activities with a strong, local presence that promote inclusion and civic engagement as well as measureable outcomes.
